North Luton Bypass

Outer Alignment

Bedfordshire County Council, Luton Borough Council and South Bedfordshire Council have recently sent a consultation document one presumes to all within their jurisdiction. Noticeably not to those in Lilley.

It is however extremely important that you have your say, particularly on the proposed outer alignment route that cuts across the western side of Lilley.

Click the map to see the full detail proposal, note the picture is large so you get the detail, please be patient when it downloads.

to see what impact Bedfordshire County Council think the bypass will have on our community. You will notice there is a third option which is not to build the road at all but to enhace alternative travel options such as buses, walking and cycling.
Clearly this option would have the least impact on Lilley, Streatley and Luton communities but is it a viable alternative?

A Few Key Facts about the proposed outer alignment

The road passes through Lilley Wood

The road cuts across Wards Wood along the John Bunyan Trail

The road effectively connects the M1 with the A505 and back to the M1 and Luton Airport

The road will certainly be filled to bursting on the day it is opened and if built single lane will be a dual carriageway before you know it.

The beneficiaries of the road will be Luton residents and travellers.

The road will be 650 yards from St Peters Church

The road will be 600 yards from the Silver Lion notwithstanding the fact that this junction will require a very large intersection.

The road will be 800 yards from Pond Farm

The road building will cause significant noise and disruption, West Street is very likely to become an access way for construction traffic
